Born in Cumbria in 1976 Deborah has always loved art and crafts, but kept this as a hobby as she studied speech and language therapy at university and worked in this profession until having her family. On becoming a stay-at-home mum Deborah found more time to be creative, both with her children and alone.

It was a felting project at her daughter’s school which inspired attendance on a short course and Deborah has not stopped felting since, experimenting with both wet and dry techniques and a variety of subjects.

Deborah loves the texture and colours which can be achieved with the wool and enjoys the whole felting process which can surprise and delight as each creation changes from a deep pile of layered wool tops to the soaped, rolled and rinsed finished piece. Then upon drying, the colours and textures re-emerge and finally, the result can be seen.

Deborah often uses pieces of material, wools and threads in her work to add interest.

The majority of Deborah’s felts are inspired by the Lake District where she has always lived and spends much time. The light thrown onto the landscape reveals amazing colour, which never fails to inspire. Deborah hopes that her felts capture some of the beauty she sees around her.
